The characteristics of metamaterials described by Veselago [1], Pendry [3],
and realized by Eleftheriades et al. [2],[4] have been implemented in the numerical engines of MEFiSTo-3D
Electromagnetic Simulators [5],
[6].
The graphic user interface of MEFiSTo provides great flexibility in setting up and dynamically visualizing the behavior of metamaterials at a speed suitable for direct human observation without need for further post-processing (solution-generated visualization). MEFiSTo also saves pictures to generate movies.
The MEFiSTo Electromagnetic Simulator allows simulations of very large structures (millions of cells) limited only by the computer’s memory, removing the limitations of experimental arrays of transmission lines or of frequency domain circuit solvers.
Work is in progress to implement a more generalized procedure for the simulation of arbitrary material behavior, including metamaterial behavior, in full 3D space and time.
